huht::
"The father/son duo of “Q” and Ian Quattrocchi make up two-thirds of the eclectic trio Huht. Far from the confines of a jam band, Huht leans on the hypnotic repetition of kraut rock while injecting prog-elements with the relative whimsy of a weathered jazz outfit. Songs here are less structured than most, yet avoid the risky venture of full-on improv. With a DNA makeup that includes members from 18andCounting & TheOnlyEnsemble and resident King Crimson tribute Thrak, Huht reaches across the aisle with a strong tendency to shred."

  • Google Calendar ICS

Registration is now open for Connect With St. Louis, FOCUS' annual educational and networking event for young professionals! This year, we'll explore different paths to leadership - in your career, in the community and in the civic space. Learn from talented and passionate young leaders in our region who are charting their own course and making a difference, and connect with peers from across industries and sectors. Come prepared to get inspired and involved!

Tickets are free for FOCUS St. Louis members and $10 for all others. Admission includes all sessions, light appetizers, free parking and two complimentary drink tickets.

KEYNOTE CONVERSATION
Brand Me: Mastermind with Keisha Mabry
In this mastermind, branding and networking expert Keisha Mabry will lead young professionals through a 5-step process to build their brands from scratch. Attendees will brainstorm their passions, brain-dump their purposes, and leave with a customized brand statement in preparation for the civic engagement, the nonprofit involvement, and the forging my path afternoon sessions.

BREAKOUT SESSIONS
Hyper-Local Politics
We know you don't have to be mayor to make a difference, but where do you start? This panel will highlight individuals who have gotten involved in their local government committees, councils, neighborhood associations etc. to help young professionals understand how they can flex their civic muscles.

Forging Your Own Path
Nowadays, career paths are rarely linear. We will hear from trail-blazers whose winding career paths have been driven by a personal mission, and perhaps have led to self-designed opportunities to serve an unmet need.

Nonprofit Involvement: Thinking Outside The Box
Finding a meaningful opportunity to give back can be harder than you'd think. Learn from leaders who have used their strengths to create opportunities for others through nonprofit involvement in order to help young professionals understand how they can do the same.

The Importance of Texture and Delicacy

  • Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Please join us for a conversation with the artists behind:

The Regional Arts Commission of St. Louis (RAC) presents "The Importance of Texture and Delicacy," an exploration of the concepts of emotional fragility and “Existence as Resistance” in Black Culture.

ARTISTS: Katherine Simóne Reynolds, Lola Ogbara, Eugenia Alexander and Jen Everett
CURATOR: Katherine Simóne Reynolds

GALLERY TALK: Friday, August 4. Reception at 6:00 PM. Talk at 6:30 PM.

GALLERY HOURS:
Mon - Fri 10AM - 5PM;
Sat & Sun 12PM - 5PM

More details...
Through art and culture, we can physicalize the fragility and essence of Blackness. Each artist in this exhibition will use their own craft of sculpture, photography, archival work, or quilting to form a discussion around the body, the style, and the historical trauma/joy of the present and the past.

CLOSING RECEPTION: Thursday, August 24, 6:00 - 8:00 PM

All events are free and open to the public.

About the Curator...
Katherine Reynolds is in her feelings, and will probably remain sitting there. At the moment, she is based out of Saint Louis, MO creating conceptual portrait and architectural photography. From receiving her B.A in Dance from Webster University, movement comes second nature and is thoroughly integrated into her practice. Her recent work is made to be literal, authentic, and emotional.

Katherine has exhibited work within many spaces and institutions around Saint Louis, including the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, Fort Gondo Compound for the Arts, and The Luminary. Internationally she was hired to work for ImPulsTanz, the largest contemporary dance festival in Europe, as the event photographer where she worked on photographic and performance projects within the MUMOK, the Weltmuseum, and many other unique venues around Vienna, Austria.

This year she completed her first residency in Berlin, Germany where she exhibited her work twice at Takt Kunsterprojectum; bringing together her two loves, architectural photography and authentic movement from the subject being photographed. For the future, she will be working on expanding her practice into more sculptural and performance works dealing in social practice.
